China is considered to be adding to the turmoil in Taiwanese society

China, which claims Taiwan as its own territory, has been conducting war games and drills since US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taipei this month. Most members surveyed by the American Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan said they had not been significantly affected by recent Chinese military drills conducted on Taiwan's territory, but had raised concerns, the group said on Friday.

Seventy-seven percent reported their business was not significantly affected. While 17% said they had experienced disruptions, including increased shipping or insurance costs, or supply chain delays. Nearly half of the 17% said the disruption stemmed from "a policy change or other manifestation of concern from their offshore headquarters", it added in a statement. Looking further ahead, 46 percent of the companies surveyed expect increased military activity this year and beyond to affect their operations, while the rest are unsure or do not expect it to be affected, the group said.

Asked about the specific "threat spectrum", the company cited the main concerns as general tensions, including disinformation campaigns, constraints or "barriers on the outskirts of Taiwan, and sanctions, travel bans, boycotts, and embargoes on Taiwanese products and people", it added.

On a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 not caring at all and 5 being very worried, respondents' average level of concern about serious action being taken against Taiwan in the next 24 months was 2.8, the group said.
AmCham Taiwan President Andrew Wylegala said the organization had called for an ambitious agenda to accelerate economic cooperation with Taiwan through the new 21st Century - Taiwan-US Trade Initiative.

framework of trade talks - and finally bilateral trade agreements. "Developments in recent weeks underscore the importance of supporting Taiwan's resilience through increased collaboration and economic integration, and the important fact that Taiwan's economic relationship with the United States is also a security issue," he added.
