Majority of Americans Ask Biden to Resign

The level of popularity of US President Joe Biden at home continues to decline. The latest survey released shows the majority of citizens do not want the 79-year-old man to run for re-election for a second time. According to a Harvard CAPS–Harris Poll survey conducted June 28-29 among 1,308 American voters registered and exclusively reported by The Hill, only 29 percent of Americans want Biden to run again in 2024, while another 71 percent refuse. . The same poll showed the overall approval rating for the Democratic president dropped to just 38 percent. Of those who said Biden should not run for re-election, 45 percent said it was because he was a bad president.

About a third said he was too old, while the remaining quarter said it was time for a change. "President Biden may want to run for re-election but voters are saying 'no' to the idea of   a second term, in favor of the work he is doing as president," said Mark Penn, co-director of the Harvard CAPS–Harris Poll survey.

"Only 30 percent of Democrats will vote for him in the Democratic presidential primaries," he added. Polls show Biden's approval rating is at 38 percent overall, getting worse in terms of his handling of the US economy (32 percent) and inflation (28 percent). He received 43 percent approval for job creation and 50 percent for handling the Covid-19 pandemic.

Faced with a choice between Biden and Trump, 60 percent of Harvard CAPS–Harris Poll respondents said they would consider a “moderate independent candidate” instead. That sentiment was found among 64 percent of Democrats and 53 percent of Republican voters surveyed. The Center for American Political Studies at Harvard University and the Harris Poll have not published the full results of the poll.
