Israel indiscriminately, shoots at Palestinian homes with sharp bullets

Israeli soldiers conduct military drills using live ammunition between Palestinian houses in the village of Khallat Al-Dabaa in Masafer Yatta, south of the West Bank, Thursday (7/7/2022), the Wafa news agency reported. According to Fouad Al-Imour, a local activist, the drills took place in an area where Palestinians live and resulted in at least four houses being shot and damaged.

"Roofs of houses were destroyed and the villagers, especially women and children, were terrified and panicked," Al-Imour told Wafa. The incident came after another drill was held in the area last week, a move meant to force Palestinians living there to leave Khallat Al-Dabaa. The Israeli occupation army is trying to force Palestinians out of at least 12 Masafer Yatta communities, claiming that their homes were built around a military training zone.

On May 4, Israel's High Court approved the expulsion of Palestinians living in Masafer Yatta to make room for Israeli military training. Some 1,200 people, including 580 children, are now at risk of forced eviction and forcible transfer, said the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). They will lose their homes, property, access to water, livelihoods, basic health facilities and schools.

"This could amount to forced displacement, a grave violation of international humanitarian law and, as such, a war crime," OCHA added in a statement. According to UN statistics, Israel has demolished or expropriated 217 Palestinian buildings in Masafer Yatta since 2011, leading to the displacement of 608 Palestinians.
