China supports peace talks between Moscow and Kyiv

 China's State Counselor and Defense Minister Wei Fenghe said Beijing was saddened by the events in Ukraine. Fenghe said he supported peace talks between Moscow and Kyiv. He also said China was against the supply of Western weapons to Ukraine as well as its sanctions against Russia. "What is the root cause of this crisis? Who is the mastermind behind this? Who has the most to lose? And who has the most to gain? Who is promoting peace and who is adding fuel to the fire?," he told the Shangri-La Dialogue security forum in Singapore. at the Shangri-La in Singapore, Sunday (12/6/2022). "I think we all know the answers to these questions," he explained. 

Fenghe said the Chinese government also hopes that the United States (US) and NATO will hold talks with Russia for a ceasefire as soon as possible. "China supports negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. We also hope that the US and NATO will hold talks with Russia to create conditions for a ceasefire as soon as possible," he said, quoted by TASS. "With regards to the Ukraine crisis: China has never provided material support to Russia," he said.
Fenghu stressed that the Chinese government is not interested in the conflict in Ukraine, but, at the same time, does not believe that sanctions can help resolve the crisis. "Conflict or war is the last thing China wants to see in Ukraine," he added. 

"At the same time, we don't believe that maximum pressure or sanctions can solve the problem," he said. "This could cause more tension and exacerbate the problem," the official said in his speech. US President Joe Biden said Volodymyr Zelensky "didn't want to hear" warnings of the Russian invasion. Speaking at a fundraising event in Los Angeles, Biden said there was "no doubt" Russian President Vladimir Putin about his plans to "go in". "Nothing like this has happened since the second world war," he told donors. "I know a lot of people think I might be exaggerating," Biden said. 

Some 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers have died since Russia's invasion of the country in February, according to military adviser Volodymyr Zelensky. He added that in terms of daily Ukrainian casualties, about "200 to 300 died, no less". The European Coast Guard and Border Service said 2.5 million Ukrainians had returned there since the war began in February. The agency says 5.5 million Ukrainians have fled to the EU since the war began. Russia is trying to repeat the Holodomor, the deliberate famine in Soviet Ukraine from 1932 to 1933 that killed millions under the Soviet regime, the head of Ukraine's presidential office said. "Russia is shelling the Ukrainian fields with firebombs.

The Ukrainian armed forces have received the new Starlink satellite communications system from SpaceX. Ukraine's defense ministry said Starlink would be used for intelligence missions.
