The aircraft carrier USS Truman arrives in Trieste today

The aircraft carrier USS Truman arrived in Trieste today, where it will stay for several days, officially for an "operational technical stop", following a two-month period of training in the Lower Adriatic and in Ionia on Greek military flights.

The carrier will remain docked due to draft reasons and because the dock where it can dock is occupied by container ships, and will depart on Wednesday. The presence of large military ships would fall within the logic of the "shield" of control and deterrence established between Europe and the Mediterranean in consideration of the Russo-Ukrainian conflict.

The carrier is part of the Carrier Strike Group 8 attack group led by Rear Admiral Curt Renshaw who commands a fleet of 6 other naval units and 9 aircraft squadrons. Technically, the carrier can accommodate up to 7,500 troops, armed with 65 planes and helicopters that have a runway of 330 meters long.

According to NATO protocol, the Italian Navy is engaged with several support units at Truman. There will also be a technical desk in the Prefecture in Trieste which will be attended by representatives of the Northern Italian military command, Port Authority employees and other airport representatives.
