Newcastle United: Chelsea goalkeeper contract

| 1.4.22 |

Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga

According to The Athletic quoted from The Boot Room, The Magpies have been monitoring Arrizabalaga for a long time. The main reason for doing this is because of the quality of the 27-year-old when he has the ball with his feet. The Boot Room report adds that Newcastle United are considering a loan offer.

Eddie Howe's side already have Martin Dubravka, Karl Darlow and Mark Gillespie in between at this point. However, they were all over the age of 30. Gillespie, who is the team's third-choice goalkeeper and has not made a single appearance this season, is also out of contract next summer.

Dubravka and Darlow, on the other hand, have contracts until 2025. It remains to be seen whether Newcastle United will let go of one or both in their bid to transform the team under their new owners. Chelsea signed Arrizabalaga in August 2018 in a deal worth £71 million, making him the goalkeeper with the highest transfer fee ever paid for a goalkeeper.

The Spaniard impressed in the Europa League in his debut season, keeping seven clean sheets in 13 games as the Blues won the title. However, he made some big mistakes in the Premier League and kept just 14 clean sheets in 36 games for the Blues.
