5.7 earthquake in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kocerin

The mayor of the city of Stolac, southeast of Mostar, the epicenter of the earthquake, reported that the young woman died when her house collapsed: three members of her family were injured.

She is a 28-year-old woman who has so far been the sole victim of the 5.7 magnitude earthquake recorded last night in Bosnia and Herzegovina and also felt in Italy. The earthquake struck 42 kilometers southeast of the city of Mostar, at a depth of 10 kilometers shortly after 11 p.m. last night, the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center confirmed.

Minor material damage was reported in Mostar where several chimneys collapsed, blocking adjacent roads. Hundreds of people fled their homes. The earthquake was felt in Montenegro, particularly in the capitals Podgorica and Niksic, the country's second city, but also in the Bar, Kotor beach resort of Hercel Novi.

The same area that in 1979 experienced a magnitude 6.9 earthquake that caused more than a hundred deaths and 1,700 injuries. The shaking was also felt in parts of Serbia, Croatia and also in Italy, particularly in the province of Ancona, in Naples and in Puglia.
