Carlos Sainz happy to finish second in Bahrain GP

Carlos Sainz has been trying to find the right fit for the F1-75 car throughout the Bahrain GP racing weekend. He also made a breakthrough ahead of qualifying to take temporary pole position after the first run of Q3, before closing it in third. In the end, the pole position was won by his partner, Charles Leclerc, while the second place was filled by Max Verstappen.

During the main race, Sainz did not have the same speed as during free practice and qualifying, but was able to finish in P3. Then near the end of the race, the Spaniard moved up to second after Verstappen was forced to withdraw from the race due to a technical problem with his car. Carlos Sainz also finished as runner-up, just behind Leclerc. "It might sound a bit strange to say now, but it was the most difficult weekend for me as a Ferrari driver.

I didn't have the pace, neither during the race nor in Friday's free practice," he said, quoted from Formula1.com.
"For some reason I still need to understand, in qualifying suddenly (speed) I was there or thereabouts fighting for pole position, but in the race it exposed my weaknesses with this car and showed I wasn't quite there yet, which last year never happened,” he explains.

“So, I still have work to do. I will celebrate (the success in Bahrain), but from Monday I need to see the data and what I can do better in driving the car and fighting to win in the next race. With the results of the race in the Bahrain GP series, Ferrari is now at the top of the 2022 F1 constructors' standings. Meanwhile Sainz is in second place in the final drivers' standings, eight points away from Leclerc who is at the top.
